Wet-Pour Safety Surfacing Wearing Layer
The PLAYSaFE® Coloured Rubber Mulch System is a wet-pour safety surfacing system designed to provide the finished wearing layer within a compliant surfacing build-up.
Installed in situ over a correctly designed shock-absorbing base, the system forms a seamless, slip-resistant surface suitable for public, educational, and commercial environments where a textured surface finish is appropriate.
Coloured Rubber Mulch System Overview
The Coloured Rubber Mulch System consists of coloured rubber mulch combined with a polyurethane binder and installed in situ as a seamless wearing layer.
The system is designed to:
- Form a continuous, joint-free surface
- Accommodate defined and controlled surface thicknesses
- Integrate with site features and formed edges
- Protect the underlying impact-attenuation layer
This system must be specified, designed, and assessed as part of a complete wet-pour surfacing system and must not be treated as an isolated material or standalone solution.
Spatial Organisation and Surface Legibility
Once installed, coloured rubber mulch provides a visually legible safety surface with a textured finish that integrates into surrounding landscapes.
The system enables:
- Visual differentiation of activity and fall areas
- Readable circulation and transition zones
- Colour-based spatial organisation across large or complex layouts
- Consistent surface appearance around fixed installations and formed edges
Design decisions should prioritise clarity, durability, and long-term maintenance over decorative complexity.
